This and That

The Alice journal i am currently working in has sort of a heart theme-queen of hearts is the cover. I did an figurative page of the Queen of Hearts.

I've also been working on some wooden hearts as seen here. The aqua one may change, but i am having fun with them. The sayings are small so that someone looking at them has to be up close~drawn in to art.

I've also been wanting to play a bit with wax. This piece is just a collage that has been waxed over. I had to play just a bit more with it and added another layer of wax over the piece after the picture was taken. Now i don't like it-figures i couldn't leave it alone...
Finally, this piece is something i started this summer-I burned glue-and whatever it did to the original thing i had going, i didn't like and painted over-left some of the burned glue showing.
Now i like it-It looks like two trees. Just need to figure for sure what image i'm adding in the middle. Maybe a child on a swing...

Time to Update~

Seems lately i spend more time catching up my blog than maintaining it~guess i've gotten busier lately. Last sunday was our art mtg~we made these copper bracelets. Mine is ugly, but i finished. What each piece should have looked like was below~ I've also made some wooden hearts that i'll post later-just realized none of the pictures turned out very well. I also finished my page in the first Alice book~will post that too after i take some pictures.

Spring in N Texas

Saturday was the first day of spring~ The trees are blooming with white~the grass is coming up. Birds are chirping in full concert...and then we get this...yep, snow again!

This nest was found when i was trimming one of our trees that had too much snow last time. It wasn't in use-it's from last yr-and i know this because of the colored yarns in there. I put them out in the trees last spring for the birds to use-nice to see they actually did! now it'll be decor for me~

A Bit of Catching Up

Several weeks ago, before my art mtg, i learned how to make these fabric flowers. The pink one is the "learning" one. The others were ones i played with when i got home. Different fabric, but still cool.
The following wkend was Gary's birthday weekend. His birthday was fri-so i lit his b-day candle from his childhood~
That sunday, we went to Hillsboro to check out a cemetery we were told about. -there were some wrought iron fences around some of the graves-very unique ones. Different from any i've seen before.

We stopped by the post office to mail something i had in the car and it still had the old PO Boxes-so i had to grab the camera for some shots of that as well.
After that-we headed back towards home-and ate a very late lunch at Babe's in Burleson...
here's a dark shot of our food-sure was good~

SNOW in Texas-again

This is the 4th time there has been snow in our area this winter-unheard of here. This is the most snow we've had out of those times-and may set a record for the area period. I decided this time i wanted to go to Ft Worth to take pictures at the cemetery. That turned out to be quite an adventure... Gary decided he would go with me-since he would be home tonight.
On the way in i spotted a "bike tree." Yep, lots of bicycles hanging in a tree...
We were in the honda. This is an important part of the story. The honda sits low to the ground. very low.
I ususally pull in to the cemetery and park-and walk. Move the car a bit but mostly walk. We parked. I got out. I was dressed for the weather. Boots, jeans, hat, scarf, gloves, coat. gary wasn't. I got out to take some pictures. walked around. more pictures. Gary came to find me. (easy to spot in the red coat) He went back to car, i walked around taking pictures. When i'm on the far side of the cemetery, i see him come walking up-then i notice the car and my first thought is "what was he thinking?!" The snow is deep here-not much traffic like the streets-car sits low. Gary said "we should probably leave while we still can before roads get bad." Well, when we get in the car to leave- and he asked where the road was-uh, there's not one at this point in the cemetery.

He sees open space that he decides he can drive through-luckily, this is at the back of the cemetery-where there are not old, little markers that could be covered in snow (that we could hit) well, this plan didn't work. We got stuck. dug out, stuck more, dug out....you get the picture. going farther away, not getting anywhere near out. Bad words came from gary's mouth. "this never would have happened to me" was going through my mind. "I never would have driven to that point-would have left the car and walked." We called the cemetery office-even though someone is there, answering machine. Gary finally called Fred. Fred would come pull us out-he had an SUV and a chain. so we wait. Then gary goes to open the car to discover that it has locked itself. (for some reason the door started doing this recently) and the keys are inside...soooo, call to nathan, find the spare, get the gas can, (because men NEVER have enough gas in the car) get the tow rope and come bring it all to us... Fred arrived-with heat. Nathan arrived with key-Fred, Gary and I managed to get the car turned enough that we could hook up the chain and thank God, Fred was able to pull the car out and to the front of the cemetery. He thought we were nuts. I mentioned again, probably wouldn't have happened if i drove. (which, now that we are home gary agrees with) So, frozen feet and hands, wet jeans and coat & several hours later we were free-
and on our way home to dry
clothes, puppies, a fire, pizza and movies. We're in for the night~:)
note: gary was convinced there was a road where he was-i was pretty sure there isn't. He looked it up on google. I was correct-he was "in" the cemetery, there is no road there. "looks different in the snow"

Puppies and Flowers

Riley thought it would be fun to rip the stuffing out of a couch pillow. Jack & Nala got in the action too~ good thing i've already written this couch off...
Now for a touch of spring! My amaryllis is blooming~much needed color on these dreary days~

Productive Night

Actually did some art tonight-went in the art room with the intention of cleaning off my table and spent several hours finishing some pieces i started this summer. The first piece is my little school boy. His puppy is sitting with him as he reads. the next is a detail of the texture.
Second is a house-called "little sister." I've done a series of "crooked little houses" and this is the latest one.
The final picture is "love lady" or whatever. She still needs a quote at the bottom, then she'll be done. I also started work on a crown-one that was formed almost 4 yrs ago, then sat. Now i'm on a roll with it and will post pictures when it's complete. All in all, a good night!
